The efficiency of a supervision solution starts from containment systems

A plant producing electricity from natural gas requires a system of control and management of the components that is able to ensure the proper operation and the safety of the entire Power Plant. For this reason, it is essential to have a central control panel in order to make accessible, quickly and efficiently, all the main elements of the system of supervision and ensure compliance with technical standards and functional requirements, which are particularly stringent in this field.

Founded in 1985, SEID is a System Integrator leader in providing worldwide technology at a high level of innovation for companies active in the field of Oil & Gas. In particular, its extensive experience in the field of process automation has led SEID to achieve a prominent position in the engineering and supply of control panels for PLC-based control systems, that meet performance demands more and more significant.

In order to achieve this, SEID aims at a constant focus on innovation, placing itself at the forefront in development and integration of control systems, as well as in providing customized solutions for the management and supervision of process compressors and utilities installation, in accordance with the most stringent international standards (IEC, ISA, UL, NFPA, ATEX, ...).

An example of such international vocation is the application recently realized for a gas turbine power plant, located in the Russian territory, for which SEID has provided systems of control and supervision dedicated to compression facilities for the feeding of gas turbine.

This solution is designed to ensure the proper functioning of key elements of the Power Plant, that is the packages of gas compression, driven by centrifugal compressors with electric motor 6MW and intended service of gas turbines with the power of 400MW. For this purpose, it was necessary to provide not only sophisticated control systems and supervision, but also adequate cabling systems, power supply and control of the vibrations.

For the accommodation of this system, SEID has received the support of Rittal, historical supplier with whom SEID had previously made high-performance solutions.

The central control system was then enclosed in two twin groups of switchboards, composed of six cabinets each, for a total of 12 cabinets. Each of the two groups comprises four blind switchboards, destined to the PLC and the system of control and supervision, as well as the power-feeder and the section of marshaling, which is increasingly important for the high degree of complexity resulting from automation systems. This section has been installed in the rear, which was then fitted with safe barriers and terminal blocks. On the front door was put the man-machine interface for control and supervision of the system by the operator, in addition to the usual emergency shutdown systems designed to ensure the safety of the system.

The two groups are then completed by two switchboards: one with a glass door to host vibration control systems and UPS units (that supply the switchboards of control and supervision), and another dedicated to the IT section equipped with dedicated supervision servers. To optimize the efficiency of the cooling system, the latter closet has been chosen in the variant provided with perforated front door, equipped with a ventilation area equal to 85%, which allows the passive ventilation of the components installed inside.

The typical Rittal standardization has also allowed SEID to combine into a single group of electrical enclosure “TS 8 model” dedicated to all the control panels, and “TS model” optimized for the installation of computer systems, without leading to a negative impact on either the responsiveness to the needs imposed by the sector, nor on the overall functionality or aesthetics. Finally the certifications of Rittal electrical cabinet and products were useful to provide a electrical equipment in full compliance with technical standards and industry regulations.
